If you happened to be wanting to travel between Glasgow or Manchester to New York, and didn’t want to fly any of the existing carriers, then you are in luck! Just make sure you’ve got some spare cash for how much this is going to cost you…

I have previously written about Global, sharing my thoughts on this operation. Someone's taken playing Airline Simulator a bit too seriously... But Global Airlines flights are now on sale, crossing off that next milestone.

To fly between Glasgow and New York JFK on Global Airlines (operated by HiFly), you will be paying £778.62 for a return in economy!

Whilst I appreciate that you cannot currently fly direct from Glasgow to New York, this is maybe a testament to the market between these two cities, but just for comparison, a flight on the same day, with British Airways via Heathrow, and for full fairness I have included a bag as Global’s fare does include one, is currently £509 on Expedia.

It gets even more eyewatering for Business Class, with the Global fare setting you back £3,700. Compare this to another available fare on the same day flying Lufthansa, which will currently cost you £2,678.

It doesn't get any better if you choose to fly from Manchester. A return fare in economy will cost you £697. With both Virgin Atlantic, and Aer Lingus currently fly directly between Manchester and JFK, making a direct comparison a bit fairer. Saying that, a return economy flying Aer Lingus, on the same days with a checked bag is currently £547.

As this is Points Well Made, we'll try and give you the points angle. Global and American Express had previously signed a partnership agreement, but there is no word about being able to spend American Express Membership Reward Points as of yet.

Lets ignore the price for now, if you can. Who knows what you are actually going to get on board? Supposedly this Ex-China Southern A380 has had a cabin refit, but no one knows what that looks like. For an airline that has in the past touted “Gamer Class”, are we in for a big surprise when the first passengers board May 15th?

I wouldn’t be so sure. My money is on a reconditioned China Southern interior, a barely functioning IFE system, no WIFI, and lacklustre food. A comparison between the PR photos that Global have put out, and cross referencing that to the China Southern First Class shows a remarkably similar interior...

For the eagle eyed among you, you may have noticed that only two seats supposedly remain in First Class for both trips. On the China Southern configuration First Class was two rows in a 1-2-1 layout, resulting in eight seats. Have AvGeek’s and Youtubers bought six seats so far?

Look, I’m as intrigued and as baffled as you are. I suppose we’re just going to have to keep waiting to find out what they have in store...

Just as we were coming to the end of writing this, owner and CEO James Asquith teased a tour of their interior on Instagram, showing off the "Skypub". Am I alone in thinking that just looks like a galley with some branding?

The rest of the interior shown is just the same as when China Southern sold them the aircraft.

After promising so much, it looks like we've all been had, folks.
